Date:

Nick Reiner has entered a plea of not guilty to the murders of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who were found dead at their home in California in December. The 32-year-old appeared at Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, where he spoke briefly to confirm his next court date on 29 April.

Reiner is facing two counts of murder, with an enhancement that could result in the death penalty or life imprisonment without the possibility of parole if he is convicted. He is now being represented by public defender Kimberly Greene after his former lawyer, Alan Jackson, withdrew from the case in January, citing that he had “no choice” but to step aside.

Rob Reiner, a prominent Hollywood director, and his wife Michele were found stabbed to death on 14 December. They were aged 78 and 70 respectively. Reiner, their second son, was arrested later that day by the Los Angeles Police Department and formally charged in connection with their deaths.

In a statement released shortly after the incident, Reiner’s siblings described the profound impact of the loss. Jake and Romy Reiner said the deaths of their parents had caused “unimaginable pain”, adding that they were not only their parents but also their closest friends.
