Writing in her column for new! magazine, Katona explained that she was discharged with pain medication and advised to follow a bland diet. She also stated that she intends to pursue private medical care to better understand her condition, while stressing that her decision was not a criticism of the NHS.

Katona said the diagnosis may help explain the persistent fatigue she has been experiencing in recent months. She revealed that she had been advised to rest and noted that tiredness is a common symptom associated with colitis.

The health scare forced her to miss her daughter Lilly’s 22nd birthday celebration, which she said was upsetting, although she later marked the occasion separately. The incident followed another recent illness that led her to withdraw from filming a Sky documentary, adding to a period of disrupted work due to ongoing health concerns.
