Speaking to the BBC, Chalamet explained that he trained consistently whenever possible, even while working on other films. He stressed the importance of authenticity, noting that audiences familiar with the sport would expect the on-screen performances to look convincing.
The actor compared the responsibility of the role to his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. In both cases, he said, the challenge lay in satisfying knowledgeable fans, whether they were music lovers or table tennis enthusiasts, by ensuring every detail appeared credible.
