Pierce Brosnan reflects on ageing, faith and life beyond James Bond

Pierce Brosnan has said he is determined to enjoy the time he has left as he moves through his seventies. The former James Bond actor, who turns 73 in May, admitted that while acting continues to keep him energised, he is increasingly aware of the passing of time and is keen not to waste it.

Speaking to The Independent, Brosnan said the creative life remains central to his sense of purpose. He acknowledged that age has sharpened his awareness of time, adding that he feels compelled to fully embrace the life he has now, having spent decades in the industry.

Despite his long and successful career, Brosnan revealed that he still experiences moments of self-doubt as an actor. He described the profession as unpredictable and said the uncertainty can be challenging, but also motivating. He credited his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, along with his Catholic faith, for giving him strength and stability, describing both as essential to his resilience.

Best known for portraying James Bond in the 007 franchise, Brosnan said he remains enthusiastic about the future of the role and is keen to see who will take on the character next. Speaking to The Times, he praised previous actors who have played the spy, but noted that he has never watched his own Bond films with his sons, saying the films remain quietly “tucked away” in his life rather than revisited.
