The Belgian Royal Palace stated that Prince Emmanuel has instead enrolled in a French-language business development course at ISTEC in Brussels. The programme is understood to offer a more practical approach, including work placements and internships. Despite the change, his overall academic progress is not expected to be delayed.

No official reason has been provided for his decision, although the prince has previously been open about having dyslexia. During his education, he attended a specialist institution in Leuven that supports students with learning difficulties. He later completed the International Baccalaureate and has taken part in voluntary work supporting vulnerable individuals.
