Ryan Gosling publicly urged film and television executives to consider hiring his brother-in-law, Carlo Mendes, during a promotional event for Project Hail Mary. The 45-year-old actor made the appeal at the Directors Guild of America headquarters in Los Angeles on 21 March, highlighting Mendes, 48, in front of a room full of writers, directors and producers.

In a video shared on TikTok on 23 March, Gosling called for Mendes to stand, introducing him to the audience and asking if any industry professionals could offer him work. Gosling praised Mendes as “the hardest-working nonworking actor in this town” and appealed directly to directors, producers and writers to cast him in future projects.
Carlo Mendes has appeared in television and film since the mid-2000s, including the 2024 erotic thriller Demise, an episode of the CW teen drama 90210, and two episodes of the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation in 2011. Gosling emphasised that Mendes deserves opportunities based on his dedication and talent.

Speaking to TheAU Review in April 2024, Mendes said his current focus is acting, though he hopes to branch into producing in the future. He noted that taking control of projects and producing would allow him to explore creative ideas, while directing and writing felt more pressurised. For now, he stated, his primary goal remains “just strictly act, act, act.”
