Kris Marshall has revealed that his filming schedule requires him to live apart from his family for several months each year. The actor, known for his role in Death in Paradise, relocated his family from Guadeloupe to the UK in 2017 so his children could be educated there. After initially settling in Bath, the family later moved to the New Forest for lifestyle reasons.

Despite intending to spend more time at home, Marshall’s return to television in the spin-off series Beyond Paradise has meant extended periods away from his wife and children. The programme, filmed in Devon and Cornwall, requires him to work long hours during the week, often involving 14-hour filming days. As a result, he stays in rented accommodation near the coast during production periods.
The actor has described a routine in which he returns home every other weekend while maintaining a temporary residence in a coastal village. He has said the arrangement allows him to balance professional commitments with personal time, while also becoming familiar with the local community where filming takes place. Locations in Cornwall, including the town of Looe, are used as settings for the fictional backdrop of the series.

Marshall has acknowledged that adjusting between work and home life can be challenging. After extended periods focused on filming, he noted that returning to everyday family responsibilities requires readjustment. He also indicated that, as his children have grown older, they prefer to remain in one place rather than travel with him, reinforcing the need for a divided routine between work and home.
