Minister calls for action ahead of Al Quds Day march in London

A justice minister has called for firm action against individuals expressing support for the Iranian regime ahead of a planned pro-Palestinian march in London this weekend. The annual Al Quds Day demonstration is due to take place on Sunday, with organisers from the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) stating that the event will remain peaceful.

Courts minister Sarah Sackman said those supporting Iran’s leadership or its affiliated groups should not be promoting hostility on the streets of London. She argued that expressions of support for the Iranian regime and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were unacceptable and urged law enforcement authorities to respond appropriately where necessary.

Speaking to broadcasters, Ms Sackman said such demonstrations had no place in British society, particularly amid heightened international tensions involving Iran. While she expressed strong opposition to the march taking place, she acknowledged that any decision regarding restrictions or enforcement would rest with the relevant authorities rather than the government directly.

The IHRC has rejected accusations that the march promotes antisemitism or supports terrorism. Writing to Metropolitan Police commissioner Sir Mark Rowley, the organisation said the event had been held for more than four decades and had consistently been conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
