Wunmi Mosaku has said she hopes her new maternity fashion line will help women feel “seen and represented”. The actor, who is pregnant with her second child, has spent more than a year developing Iyadé, a label created in response to what she described as a lack of stylish and empowering maternity wear. The brand’s name comes from Yoruba and translates as “mother has arrived”.

Speaking about the project, Mosaku said the aim was to highlight motherhood while ensuring expectant women feel confident and visible. She recently attended the BAFTA Awards in London, where she won best supporting actress and appeared in a floor-length electric blue dress by designer Priya Ahluwalia. Her stylist said the focus was on comfort without sacrificing style, describing the approach as fashion that is pregnancy-friendly rather than traditional maternity wear.
Mosaku noted that certain aspects of dressing during pregnancy remain challenging, particularly finding flat shoes that are both practical and stylish. She also said choosing designers who reflect her Nigerian and British heritage is important to her, adding that she makes a conscious effort to wear Black designers where possible, especially for high-profile public appearances.

She said the experience of working on the film felt rooted in a strong sense of history, culture and creative purpose.
