Richard Hammond reflects on life one year after divorce

Date:

It has been a year since Richard Hammond announced his separation from his wife Mindy after 28 years of marriage, a decision that surprised fans of the long-running presenter. Best known for his work on BBC’s Top Gear and Prime Video’s The Grand Tour alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May, Hammond has been a familiar face on British television for more than two decades.

The 55-year-old confirmed the split in a statement shared in January last year, explaining that while their marriage had come to an end, they would remain a family for the sake of their two daughters. He also asked for privacy at the time, stressing pride in the life they had built together. The announcement came during a period of continued public appearances, including a visit to Oxfordshire last summer for the Salon Privé event at Blenheim Palace.

In the months that followed, Hammond addressed the subject cautiously in interviews. Speaking to the Daily Mail nine months later, he suggested that his focus remained on work rather than future relationships. He later spoke more openly on his Discovery series Richard Hammond’s Workshop, describing how the divorce had led to a change in living arrangements and acknowledging the emotional difficulty of recent years, while attempting to remain positive.

Towards the end of the year, Hammond reflected further in a DriveTribe YouTube video filmed with his daughter Izzy. Describing the past year as one of significant highs and lows, he admitted it had been challenging and expressed a hope for a quieter period ahead, a sentiment his daughter shared as they looked towards the future.
