Jennifer Lawrence on switching off and embracing motherhood

Date:

Jennifer Lawrence has said she is exceptionally good at switching off at the end of the working day, a habit she believes has helped her maintain balance despite a demanding Hollywood career. The Oscar-winning actress told Variety that she rarely thinks about work once she leaves set, even if that means facing a frantic start the following morning.

The 35-year-old acknowledged that while this approach is beneficial for her personal wellbeing, it can add unnecessary pressure to her professional life. She recalled turning up unprepared for a particularly demanding scene in Silver Linings Playbook, admitting it was stressful to realise on the day that she had to memorise complex dialogue opposite Robert De Niro.

Lawrence explained that letting go helps her avoid becoming overwhelmed, even if it occasionally leads to difficult moments at work. She described this trade-off as worthwhile, saying it allows her to stay grounded and avoid taking stress home with her.

The actress has also spoken candidly about her initial fears around motherhood. Now a mother to two young children, she previously told Vogue that honest conversations with friends helped her feel prepared for the emotional uncertainty of becoming a parent, allowing herself the space to adapt without guilt.
