Macaulay Culkin reflects on fame, boundaries and protecting his children

Date:

Macaulay Culkin, best known for his childhood role in Home Alone, has spoken candidly about the personal boundaries he has set after decades in the public eye. Now 45, the actor explained that he has learnt to remove himself from situations that feel uncomfortable and to manage encounters with fans who become overly enthusiastic. Speaking to Deadline, he described the small strategies he relies on to end interactions politely yet firmly, noting that a sense of personal safety remains essential.

Culkin emphasised that he now feels more confident addressing inappropriate behaviour directly. While acknowledging that some fans may get caught up in the moment, he has established clear rules, such as not being followed to the bathroom or approached in ways that might unsettle his young children. He added that he dislikes being touched or physically “handled”, and will calmly point out when boundaries are crossed.

The actor also spoke about life at home with his partner, actress Brenda Song, and their two sons. He explained that the couple are committed to keeping their children shielded from the pressures and expectations that can come with having famous parents. Appearing on the Hot Ones YouTube series, Culkin shared that his sons remain entirely unfazed when they see their mother or father on television, which he views as a positive sign.

Culkin reiterated that he does not intend to raise “nepo babies”, stressing that he wants his children to grow up grounded and unaffected by celebrity culture. He expressed relief that the boys are more interested in everyday life than in their parents’ fame, and that they remain blissfully unimpressed by their on-screen appearances.
